STRUCTURAL REINFORCEMENTS OF THE CORNICE OF THE INTERNAL WALKWAY

The project was aimed at the structural consolidation of the cornice of the internal walkway in the fireplace hall. The consolidation project included the insertion of threaded bars within the masonry of the cornice.

1. Preparation of the Holes
Drilling of appropriate holes in the masonry using a core drill and drill, following a bottom-to-top inclination, to a depth of 1 m.

2. Cleaning of the Holes
Cleaning of the prepared holes with compressed air to remove residual dust and debris.

3. Placement of Threaded Bars
Insertion of threaded bars with a diameter of 10 mm and a length of 1 m into the prepared holes.

4. Anchoring with Two-Component Resin
Injection of two-component resin into the holes to anchor the threaded bars to the existing masonry.

5. Management of Internal Wooden Elements
During drilling, cylindrical wooden elements with a diameter of 3 cm were detected, inserted transversely within the masonry at a depth of 35–50 cm.
The presence of these elements required a design modification, with new holes drilled slightly inclined to the right to avoid interference.

6. Filling of the Holes
Closure of the holes using lime-based mortar, applied slightly below the external profile of the cornice.

7. Surface Finishing
Application of a scagliola plaster layer imitating the original surface, followed by finishing with lime-based paint in a color similar to the original.
