VILLA LITTA BORROMEO
RESTORATION OF THE UNDERGUTTER FRAME
The objective of the project is to restore the frame under the eaves of the Villa.
Operational Phases of the Intervention
1. Removal of Incongruent Additions
Demolition and removal of portions of the under-eaves cornice previously reconstructed in cement during earlier interventions, as they were incompatible in terms of material properties and behavior with the historic structure.
2. Inspection and Securing of Original Plasters
Assessment of the conservation state and review of the original plaster sections at risk of detachment or decohesion, with targeted interventions for reattachment and stabilization.
3. Reconstruction of the Cornice in Shape
In-situ reconstruction of missing cornice portions using lime-based mortars, shaped with molds made from the negatives of intact sections.
Insertion of stainless steel anchoring bars connected to sound masonry to ensure adequate structural support for the most projecting parts.
4. Filling of Stone Surfaces
Execution of stuccoes with lime-based mortars and properly pigmented marble powders to close lacunae and protect exposed edges.
5. Consolidation and Protection of Stone Surfaces
Application of ethyl silicate consolidant on all affected stone elements to restore surface cohesion and arrest degradation processes, followed by a final water-repellent treatment compatible with the nature of the materials.
